DEFENCE FOR CHILDREN INTERNATIONAL – DCI – ANNOUNCES THE ESTABLISHMENT OF AN ADVISORY COMMITTEE
PRESS RELEASE
Defence for Children International is proud to announce the creation of the DCI Advisory Committee (AC), which was formalised at the meeting of the International Executive Council (IEC), held on 19-21 June 2015, in Geneva, Switzerland.
The AC is composed by renowned experts and advocates of children’s rights who provide and guide DCI with their expertise and sound knowledge. While it has no governing function, the Advisory Committee guides and supports the IEC in its role to define DCI’s advocacy strategy and lobbying actions and is therefore a crucial organ that helps ensure the success of DCI’s activities and programmes at local, national, regional and international levels.
DCI welcomes the four members that were officially appointed on Sunday 21 June 2015 for an initial term of two years (renewable):
• Mr Nigel Cantwell: after working for the now-defunct International Union for Child Welfare for five years, Mr Nigel Cantwell founded Defence for Children International in 1979 and remained with the organisation for 15 years. He then took on various roles with UNICEF and has been working as an international consultant on child protection policy since 2003, with a special focus on safeguarding the rights of children in relation to alternative care and intercountry adoption.
• Ms Christine Cornwell: a former executive of the International Labour Organization (1989 – 2002), Ms Cornwell later conducted various assignments undertaken on behalf of the United Nations, the International Labour Office and the ILO International Training Centre in Turin. Ms Cornwell is also a member of the International Board of Trustees and of the Administrative Council of the African Child Policy Forum (ACPF), and was ACPF representative in Geneva from 2003 to 2012.
• Mr Jaap Doek: former member of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child (1999 – 2007) and also Chairperson thereof (2001-2007), Mr Doek is member of the International Board of Trustees of the African Child Policy Forum (ACPF). Japp Doek was also the General Rapporteur of the Third World Congress on Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents in 2008 and a member of the Editorial Board for the UN Study on Violence against Children between 2003 and 2006. Since 2014, he is the special legal advisor of ECPAT and chairperson of the Inter-Agency Working group on the project of End child prostitution, child pornography and trafficking of children for sexual purposes (ECPAT) on terminology in the field of sexual abuse and sexual exploitation of children. Last but not least, Mr Doek was involved in the creation of Defence for Children International and established its Dutch section (1984).
• Ms Moushira Khattab: a career diplomat serving as Egypt’s first Ambassador to Nelson Mandela’s South Africa and to Czechoslovakia during its peaceful separation to the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Ms Khattab ended her diplomatic career as Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Cultural Relations. Ms Khattab is also a human rights activist advocating the rights of children and women who has been Chair of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.
A fifth member of the Advisory Committee will be confirmed at the beginning of July 2015.
Defence for Children International strongly believes that the experts that compose the Advisory Committee will not only help ensure the success of its activities worldwide but will also act as ambassadors for the movement and raise its profile wherever the occasion is opportune.

DEFENSA DE NIÑAS Y NIÑOS INTERNACIONAL – DNI – ANUNCIA LA CREACIÓN DE UN CONSEJO ASESOR
COMUNICADO DE PRENSA
Defensa de Niñas y Niños Internacional se complace en anunciar la creación de un Consejo Asesor (CA) de DNI, habiéndose hecho oficial en la última reunión del Consejo Ejecutivo Internacional (CEI) que ha tenido lugar los días 19, 20 y 21 de junio de 2015, en Ginebra, Suiza.
El Consejo Asesor está compuesto por reconocidos expertos y defensores de los derechos de los niños, que van a proveer y guiar a DNI con su sólida experiencia y conocimientos. A pesar de no tener ninguna función gobernativa, el Consejo Asesor va a orientar y apoyar al CEI en su papel de definir la estrategia de incidencia y acciones de cabildeo de DNI. Por tanto se tratará de un órgano fundamental que ayudará a asegurar el éxito de las actividades y programas de DNI a nivel local, nacional, regional e internacional.
DNI se complace en dar la bienvenida a los cuatros miembros del CA que fueron designados oficialmente el domingo 21 junio 2015 para un período inicial de dos años (renovable):
• Sr. Nigel Cantwell: después de trabajar cinco años para la, ya desaparecida, Unión Internacional para el Bienestar Infantil, el Sr. Cantwell fundó Defensa de Niñas y Niños Internacional en 1979, y trabajó en la organización durante quince años. Más tarde desempeñó distintas funciones con UNICEF y desde 2003 trabaja como consultor internacional sobre políticas de protección infantil, con un enfoque especial en la protección de los derechos de los niños en relación con la tutela institucional y la adopción internacional.
• Sra Christine Cornwell: es una exejecutiva de la Organización Internacional del Trabajo (1989 – 2002). Posteriormente la Sra Cornwell desempeñó diversas tareas para las Naciones Unidas, la Oficina Internacional del Trabajo (OIT) y el Centro Internacional de Formación de la OIT en Turín. Actualmente, es también miembro de la Junta Directiva Internacional y del Consejo de Administración de la African Child Policy Forum (ACPF), y ha sido representante de la ACPF en Ginebra de 2003 a 2012.
• Sr. Jaap Doek: un ex miembro del Comité de los Derechos del Niño de las Naciones Unidas (1999 – 2007) habiendo sido el presidente de dicho Comité (2001-2007), el Sr Doek es miembro de la Junta Directiva Internacional de África Child Policy Forum (ACPF). Jaap Doek fue también el Relator General del III Congreso Mundial contra la Explotación Sexual de Niños, Niñas y Adolescentes en 2008 y miembro del Consejo Editorial para el Estudio de las Naciones Unidas sobre la Violencia contra los Niños, entre 2003 y 2006. Desde 2014, es el asesor legal especial de ECPAT y presidente del Grupo de Trabajo Interinstitucional sobre el Proyecto de ECPAT sobre la terminología en el ámbito de los abusos sexuales y la explotación sexual de los niños. Por último, pero no menos importante, el Sr. Doek participó en la creación de Defensa de Niñas y Niños Internacional y estableció la sección holandesa (1984).
• Sra Moushira Khattab: diplomática de profesión, sirvió como primera embajadora de Egipto en Sudáfrica con Nelson Mandela y de Checoslovaquia durante su separación pacífica de la República Checa y Eslovaquia. La Sra. Khattab terminó su carrera diplomática como Ministra Asistente de Asuntos Exteriores de Relaciones Culturales Internacionales. Es también una activista de los derechos humanos y en particular de los derechos de los niños y mujeres. Ha sido Presidente del Comité de los Derechos del Niño de las Naciones Unidas.
Un quinto miembro del Consejo Asesor será confirmado a principios del mes de julio de 2015.
Defensa de Niñas y Niños Internacional cree firmemente que los expertos que componen el Consejo Asesor, no sólo ayudarán a asegurar el éxito de sus actividades en todo el mundo, sino que también, cada uno de ellos, actuará como embajador para el Movimiento elevando la posición de DNI siempre que se presente la ocasión oportuna.

DEFENSE DES ENFANTS INTERNATIONAL – DEI – ANNONCE LA CREATION D’UN COMITE CONSULTATIF
COMMUNIQUÉ DE PRESSE
Défense des Enfants International est fière d’annoncer l’établissement d’un Comité Consultatif (CC), dont la création a été formalisée lors de la réunion annuelle du Conseil Exécutif International (CEI), qui s’est tenue du 19 au 21 Juin 2015 à Genève, Suisse.
Le CC se compose d’experts et de défenseurs des droits de l’enfant qui guident DEI à travers leur expertise et LEUR savoir-faire. Alors qu’il ne possède pas de fonction de direction, le Comité Consultatif guide et soutient le CEI quant à la définition de la stratégie de plaidoyer et de lobbying du mouvement DEI. Il est donc un organe essentiel qui contribue au succès des activités et des projets de DEI tant à l’échelle locale, nationale, régionale qu’internationale.
DEI félicite et souhaite la bienvenue aux quatre membres officiellement nommés le dimanche 21 Juin 2015 pour un mandat initial de deux ans (renouvelable):
· M. Nigel Cantwell: après avoir travaillé pendant cinq ans pour la désormais défunte International Union for Child Welfare, M. Nigel Cantwell a fondé Defence for Children International en 1979 et est resté au sein de l’organisation pendant 15 ans. Il a ensuite conduit diverses missions pour l’UNICEF et travaille depuis 2003 comme consultant international sur les questions de protection de l’enfance, avec un accent particulier sur les droits des enfants en matière de protection de remplacement et d’adoption internationale.
· Mme Christine Cornwell: ancienne dirigeante de l’Organisation internationale du Travail (1989 – 2002), Mme Cornwell effectue depuis 2003 diverses missions pour le compte des Nations Unies, du Bureau international du Travail et du Centre de formation international de l’OIT à Turin. Mme Cornwell est également membre de l’International Board of Trustees et du Conseil d’administration de l’African Child Policy Forum (ACPF), et a été représentante de l’ACPF à Genève de 2003 à 2012.
· M. Jaap Doek: ancien membre du Comité des Nations unies sur les droits de l’enfant (1999 – 2007) et président de ce comité (2001-2007), Jaap Doek est membre du conseil d’administration international de l’African Child Policy Forum (ACPF). Il a été le Rapporteur Général du Troisième Congrès mondial sur l’exploitation sexuelle des enfants et des adolescents en 2008 et membre du Comité de rédaction de l’étude des Nations Unies sur la violence contre les enfants entre 2003 et 2006. Depuis 2014, il est le conseiller juridique spécial d’ECPAT et président du Groupe de travail inter organisations sur le projet ECPAT portant sur la terminologie dans le domaine de l’abus sexuel et l’exploitation sexuelle des enfants. Enfin, M. Doek a contribué à l’établissement du mouvement mondial DEI et a créé la section DEI-Hollande (1984).
· Mme Moushira Khattab: diplomate de carrière qui a servi en tant que première ambassadrice de l’Egypte auprès de l’Afrique du Sud de Nelson Mandela et auprès de la Tchécoslovaquie lors de sa séparation pacifique entre République tchèque et Slovaquie, Mme Khattab a terminé sa carrière diplomatique comme ministre adjointe des Affaires étrangères pour les relations culturelles internationales. Mme Khattab est également une militante des droits de l’homme, des droits des enfants et des femmes. Elle a, à ce titre, été présidente du Comité des Nations Unies sur les droits de l’enfant.
Un cinquième membre du Comité Consultatif sera confirmé début Juillet 2015.
Défense des Enfants International est convaincue que les experts qui composent le Comité Consultatif ne contribueront pas uniquement au succès des activités de DEI mais qu’ils agiront également en tant qu’ambassadeurs du mouvement et renforceront sa visibilité à travers le monde.
